Aimé Mpane
Museum Exhibition

Europa, Oxalá
AfricaMuseum, Tervuren, Belgium
October 7, 2022 - March 5, 2023
Europa, Oxalá at the AfricaMuseum in Tervuren, Belgium features works by 21 European artists with African origin. Born and raised in a post-colonial context, these artists reflect on their heritage, their memories and their identities. The works on view present an original reflection on racism, the decolonising of the arts, the status of women and artists in contemporary society, and the deconstruction of colonial thinking.

The exhibition is co-curated by and includes the work of Belgium-based Congolese artist Aimé Mpane,  whose practice addresses legacy and traces of colonialism in Africa, and speaks of human dignity, hope, courage, empathy and perseverance.
