Offering visitors a space in which to reflect on the operations of the cosmos and our place within it, Cosmos Cinema reflects on diverse cosmologies and microcosmic realities. The exhibition tries not to illustrate a fixed idea, but to encourage the audience to find new meanings by forging unexpected connections. Featured in the exhibition are Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian’s mirrored mosaics, sculptural assemblages, drawings, textiles, and monotypes that took inspiration from sources as varied as classical Persian interiors and American Minimalism. In the artwork, Manzar, 2016, named after the Monir’s granddaughter, she creates a globe that, through a mosaic of glittering diamond-shaped glass pieces, maps an imagined world.
